Archiimp Pop Up Gallery on 15th & 16th September presents a special feature of works for sale by:
Julie Robertson MA
Multidisciplinary Artist (2D, 3D and Photography)
Julie Robertson is a Midlands based artist, always looking for new ideas and means of expression.
She thoroughly enjoys immersing herself in contemporary fine art during her recent study in Birmingham at Margaret Street School of Art, where she achieved her MA.
They say that life imitates art and vice versa, and this is particularly true of Julie’s work over the past 12 years shown here as the ‘Her Story’ Collection.
Her work has inevitably developed over time. After achieving her BA in 2006, ‘Cheshire Cat’ and ‘Graduation’ express the sheer joy of completing that lifelong goal. Post-graduation, her work came from an outward looking view developed through travel. ‘Out of the Blue’ and ‘In the Pink’ were inspired by trips to the Blue Caves in Zakynthos and ‘Lemons’, ‘Platter’ and ‘Vase’ came from time spent in Varese near Lake Garda.
As Julie matured, her focus has developed. In 2011, her mother-in-law was becoming increasingly ill at the age of 89, and even with the best efforts of the family, it struck me how lonely life can be for the elderly. ‘Undiscovered’ – the world goes on around her, as she sits waiting.
Inspired by Marion Wallace-Dunlop who was an artist and a key player in the Suffragette movement – the first suffragette to be force-fed. ‘The Artist’s Coat’ recognises and indeed celebrates the 100th Anniversary of some women getting the vote, – and is created in the Suffragette colours of purple for loyalty and dignity, white for purity and public life, and green for hope.
Julie’s latest work ‘Purple Rain’ and ‘Fluxus’ are about the random interconnections, interruptions or disruptions that shape our lives and reflect the latter part of her study in 2015/2016 which was influenced by joining in group study of Philosophy with Professor Johnny Golding and has underpinned her post MA work.
Open to the public from 10am to 5pm and both days at 16 Foregate, Street, The Hopmarket, WR1 1DL
