PIA Call for Artists – The new PIA Art Exhibition Area at the Worcester Show 2019

New Art Exhibition Area for 2019!!

The Worcester Show 2019 will be taking place in Gheluvelt Park, Worcester, on Sunday 11th August 2019 and is an annual event that regularly attracts over 10,000 visitors. This year there is something different.

Some artists have already reserved their place at the Worcester Show 2019 PIA Art Exhibition Area but others are available.

Only £65 per stand or £100 for the double stand (could be a shared space) Includes one 6ft table, one parking pass per stand, inclusion in event and PIA marketing promotion, set up assistance and use of the break out area. More details of site specification will be provided to successful artists.

Please book directly through Participate In Art not  through the Worcester Show Website

As this is hot off the press today the PIA Exhibition Area is not currently shown on the organisers website but will updated soon.

pARTicipate is producing an Art Exhibition Area at the 2019 Worcester Show just for a collection of artists and artisans.

This area will be dressed and presented as a separate dedicated PIA Art Exhibition Area

This will provide a dedicated area for artists and their work. Enough space for each stand to have a 3 metre open face, a single or double size stand and an artist breakout and storage area. Each stand includes 6ft table (removable if needed and more may be available on request) and wall hanging systems (a new innovative addition to the stand set up). Layout is for seven standard units and one double stand.

The PIA Exhibition Area will include a space for the artists to take a break , site down and storage additional stock and packaging (make packing up a lot easier and stress free)

We hope this will be the start of a regular fixture for the Worcester Show

PIA will be present throughout the day to assist artists (if needed) and coordinate things. They will market the pavilion robustly and manage the liaison with show organisers.

PIA will help artists with their pre-event preparations, marketing material, logistics, assist with set up (including hanging, table layout, marking), sales processing (if required) and help with visitor introductions.

The PIA Art Exhibition Area is a bolt-on to the existing annual Worcester Show and is very excited to able to support such a wonderful event.

Marion Steele (Steelecolours) – Textile Artist

I have always had an interest in fabrics, threads and paint and have developed a love of art in its widest sense. Over the years I have dabbled and experimented with many skills and techniques in both paint and textiles. I love the effect paint/dye/inks have on canvas, paper and fabric. Likewise, I use similar approaches to textiles where I use threads, fabrics and yarns to cover a background like brushstrokes of paint.

I experiment with colour, shape, texture, mixed media and composition to create my pieces of work. I use a variety of recycled fabrics, wool and yarn in my work and find inspiration from nature, landscapes and seascapes. I live and work in Worcester and are a member of ‘Artistree’ and exhibit in their gallery in Ledbury.

A self-taught Flameworker, specialising in borosilicate implosion pendants, its low coefficient thermal expansion properties creating a huge array of opportunity for colour, shape and form. Through continual discovery and experimentation in coloured glass applications, silver fuming and flame control, each unique piece is colourful, intricate and beautiful. He confesses to be, addicted to the endless pursuit of the perfect pendant.

Sam Fenner – Quirky Animal Portraits (Acrylic)

Sam Fenner is a Worcestershire based artist who specializes in acrylic painting. She studied General Art & Design at Hereford College, Life Drawing at Worcester School of Art & Design, and Art History to degree level.

Sam’s much sought after original paintings don’t hang on gallery walls for long. She has an ever-growing reputation among artists and collectors for her distinctive animal portraits:  a collection of eccentric animal portraits oozing with life and character, skilfully painted against a backdrop of vivid colour, and injected with the artist’s quirky sense of fun and humour.

One reason she engenders such loyalty among collectors is because she imbues her subjects with almost human characteristics – as well as being technically excellent paintings. Sam will be displaying her ever-popular prints and cards, as well as original paintings and her new moovellous mini gift collection.

Sam continues to exhibit very successfully in and around the UK and sells to collectors worldwide.

Susan Birth – Mixed Media Art

Susan creates vibrant mixed media artwork, mainly semi-abstract landscape, still life and floral pieces. She makes bold use of colour and pattern to create impactful and intriguing images.

“I use various combinations of acrylic paint, ink, gouache, charcoal, oil pastels, etc. often incorporating collage. I aim to make a striking first impression and then continue to spark interest through use of colour, shape, movement, texture and overall composition, always enjoying experimenting with new media and techniques.”

Susan has exhibited as part of Worcestershire Open Studios and more recently at the Pershore Number 8 Gallery. A selection of her work is also on display in the Cider Barn Gallery near Presteigne. She has participated in a number of Pop-Up Art Initiative events organised by ‘Architectural Impressions’ including this exciting ‘Christmas Arts’ event in the Henry Sandon Hall. As well as original paintings and prints, Susan’s stand will feature some seasonal surprises!

In the run up to the Hopmarket Fringe on Saturday 1st December Archiimp will be curating a Pop Up Gallery in 16 Foregate from the morning of Saturday 24th November to the end of the Hopmarket Fringe on the evening of Saturday 1st December

We are not just looking for paintings or wall hanging items but other artisan items too, such as cards, jewellery, glassware, pottery, textiles etc.

Courtyard Arts December 2018 (last of the calendar year)

The Courtyard Arts is a series of Arts events, as part of the broadening scope of the Archiimp Pop Up Gallery Initiative in partnership with nestWorcester, which will take place at the same location on the first Sunday of every month.

The artists being showcased on 2nd December are:

Bic Beaumont Art

After a hiatus after completing my art degree, I got back into artwork after my mother had an amputation a few years ago and wanted a design for a couple of her casts and prosthesis, which led to life drawing classes, which really helped with my confidence and enabled me to exhibit in several local events, which has led to other exhibitions and opportunities further afield. I find painting and photography a way of shutting everything out, just giving myself a bit of time to do something creative and switch off.

I want my artwork to be fun, which is why I use lots of colour and a bit of sparkle in my paintings, using nature and the animals I meet as a source of inspiration.

Sian Hughes – Fine Jewellery

Sian Elizabeth Hughes has been hand making her award winning jewellery in the West Midlands for over 12 years. Sian spent 10 years in Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter before relocating to a quiet Worcestershire village.

Sian comments “My designs are inspired by simple natural shapes, colours, forms and texture. I design and make all my pieces by hand, creating wearable but contemporary jewellery that is feminine but elegant”.

She adds “Since my career began I have taken part in exhibitions such as Goldsmiths’ Fair and The Contemporary Craft Fair and have exhibited my work nationally and internationally at venues such as The V&A Museum. I have won awards from Contemporary Applied Arts, New Designers and International Jewellery London. My work is published in several books including; ‘Showcase 500 Rings’ curated by Bruce Metcalf.”

Lenny Ledgerwood – Inky Bunny Prints

Lenny is a Worcester based artist producing hand-printed lino-cut cards and original limited edition prints. She loves to use bold, expressive colours and her subject matter is as erratic as her train of thought! Although Lenny has always trained and worked in the arts industry (originally as a theatrical costume designer and now a teacher of dressmaking and craft courses,) printmaking has only fairly recently become a speciality.

Whilst undergoing a course of chemotherapy in 2017 she took up lino-cut printmaking as a form of therapy to help her through some difficult times. Now, out the other side of her illness, it has become a passion and a compulsion and she’s excited to be improving with each new piece of work and exploring the world of lino-cutting whilst she settles on her own unique style. Her love of travel and kitsch memorabilia influences her limited edition prints, whilst her greetings cards are inspired mostly by nature. Lenny’s hope is that her finished artwork brings as much happiness to her customers as the process of making it does to her.

Jilly Oxlade-Arnott – Architectural Watercolour Artist

Oxlade-Arnott is known for her unique watercolour and fine line ink depictions of historically or nationally significant architecture. She is a Worcester based architectural watercolour artist from a family of draughtsmen, painters, potters and sculptors. Having two distinct styles, a more traditional ‘Classique’ which is bright watercolour with detailed fine line ink whereas ‘Vivid’ is simplistic bold lines on layers of pure vibrant colours, inspired by the pop art genre and is best seen on large scale canvases.

Structure, perception and placement form the focal point of her works, with an emphasis of colour and depth on the subject structure leaving the surrounding detail in contrasting black line work. Oxlade-Arnott is known nationally for her works of Worcester, Malvern and Ludlow and is now gaining great interest from the international collector’s scene for both her classique global and vivid works.

Architecture and its’ appreciation is of importance to Oxlade-Arnott, who commented “Buildings are the foundation of our lives, the interaction we all have with them may be inconsequential but if, once in a while you stop, look up, you’ll be surprised by what you’ve missed and how varied and intricate the urban landscape can really be.”

New Artwork Released Ludlow Castle II

New Artwork Released in the Ludlow Collection

Ludlow Castle Aspect II, Ludlow England

Ludlow Castle Aspect II

Walter de Lacy, a trusted member of the household of William FitzOsbern arrived in England with the conquering army of William in 1066. FitzOsbern was rewarded for his loyal part in William’s victory with an Earldom over the lands of Hereford.

After three years of local resistance, FitzOsbern was able to claim his Earldom and planned to keep his new acquisition secure by developing a string of castles along the border of England and Wales. To assist in this plan, he followed the model of patronage and favour set by William the Conqueror himself and began to distribute areas of his lands to his trusted men, in order to keep their loyalty and support. Thus, Walter De Lacy, FitzOsbern’s second in command seems to have acquired the lands of South Shropshire and from there, he appears to be linked with the earliest developments around Ludlow Castle. Walter’s sons, first Roger and then Hugh built the earliest surviving parts of the Castle that we can still see today, and the De Lacy family retained lordship until the end of the 13th century.

The Castle Fortress that the De Lacy’s built, occupies a finely judged defensive position. Guarded by both the rivers Teme and Corve, Ludlow Castle stands prominently on high ground, able to resist attack from would be invaders from over the Welsh border.

New Artwork Released Broad Gate

Broad Gate, Ludlow

New Artwork Released in the Ludlow Collection

Broad Gate, Ludlow England

Broad Gate Ludlow

The last survivor of Ludlow’s seven medieval gates, probably completed about 1270. Despite considerable later rebuilding, the original structure of two drum towers flanking a central passage remains. This can be seen from the south side.

On the north side note the 16th to 18th Century house built over the Gate. There are Gothic crenellations and details probably by Pritchard for Dr Samuel Sprott who died in 1760. He has a monument by Prichard in Ludford Church. Note the portcullis groove and arrow slit under the arch. The Gate arch and the drum towers (cf Edward I’s castles in Wales) can be seen from the South elevation.

The West drum tower is now partially obscured by Regency Gothic additions of 1824 – 29.

A4Courtyard Arts 4th Nov Web

The artists being showcased on 4th November are:

Kirsty Protherough – Watercolour Artist

I am interested in the use of colour. Watercolour as a medium is challenging but can produce some beautiful effects unreproducible by oil or acrylic. I am constantly inspired by the flora and fauna of Worcestershire and the changing seasons. Impressionism and the Arts and crafts movement inspire me and I hope this is reflected in my work.

My originals  are painted using artist quality Winson and Newton paint on fine art quality watercolour paper (Arches Rough 300lb – 600lb).

Prints are made using fine art pigment inks and fine art archival grade paper (Hahnemuhle Torchon 285gsm). I also do commissions.

Deb Stanley, CPCAS of Deb Stanley Art – Coloured Pencils & Pastels

Deb is a Malvern based artist specialised in creating highly detailed, realistic artworks using artist quality coloured pencils and pastels.  Her work covers a variety of subjects and is currently focused on big cats, one receiving the David Shepherd Award at Nature in Art 2018. Deb has recently been awarded Signature Status by The Coloured Pencil Community of Australasia.

Sarah & Chris Greening Glass/Pottery

Sarah fuses coloured glass pieces with some chemistry in a kiln to make unique contemporary fused glass jewellery pieces which she sells in shops, galleries and craft markets. She lives and works in Worcester where she also runs glass fusing taster classes.

Chris creates a wide range of functional slipware pottery for modern living. His pieces are decorated with coloured liquid clay (slip) which provides a fantastic fluid palette to explore the patterns that nature produces, particularly in marine geomorphology, such as the drawing back of silt by the waves on a sandy shoreline.

Jadu Sheridan Art

Jadu is a Worcester artist who uses acrylic paint, pen and ink to create images inspired by nature; real and imagined. She uses vibrant colour to depict landscapes and seascapes from around the British Isles; her real love are trees and seas. Examples of her original art, prints and cards will be on display.

Mark Zytynski Photography

I am a photographer with a passion for Trees and Woodlands!

Working from high resolution digital photographic images I produce limited edition mixed media artworks and fine art “painterly” prints using textured watercolour papers, canvas, and a variety of presentation styles. My aim is to create artworks and prints that will evoke the same feeling in the observer that I experienced in the “wild”.

New Artwork Released in the Ludlow Collection

Readers House, Ludlow England

Readers House Ludlow

The Reader’s House is a late medieval stone building owned by the Palmer’s Guild and housing the Grammar School in the late 15th Century.

Originally entered from the Bull Ring, it was leased to Thomas Kay, the Chaplain to the Council of the Marches, who made a new entrance from the Churchyard in 1616, adding the fine timber framed porch. Note the details of the carving of woodwork – typical of early 17th Century Ludlow carpentry.

The Ounce Art Wall – Gone Global

The Ounce Art Wall now showing samples from the Global Collection

The Ounce Art Wall has been refreshed again after hosting the Archiimp October Pop Up Gallery Artist’s Preview last week.

This space continues to be kindly donated by Shane and Amy of the Ounce as an area dedicated to the promotion of local artists (all artworks shown at the Ounce Art Wall are available to purchase!!).

The Art Wall is regularly refreshed to promote a variety of artists and art events around the City, giving visitors and customers of The Ounce opportunities see artworks that they would not normally have access to, as well as informing them of new events coming up.

The Art Wall is managed by Archiimp’s Curator Chris Oxlade-Arnott who commented “Shane and Amy share our desire to support and increase awareness of Art within the City. Access to this prime space at the very busy ‘Ounce’ provides a wonderful opportunity for local artists and art lovers alike.

We change the artwork layout, rotating different styles and mediums as is practically possible to gain as much exposure as we can for the artists. Its a great space and we are very grateful to Shane and the Ounce for their continued support”.

October Pop Up – Cold but Colourful

The October Archiimp Pop Up Gallery was the most colourful and bright one yet!

Pop Up Oct I

Despite the temperatures dropping dramatically over the weekend, this didn’t stop a steady stream of visitors to the Archiimp October Pop Up Gallery on 16 Foregate, the Hopmarket to see artist’s Cherrie Mansfield, Susan Birth, Sam Fenner and Jilly OA.

The event included mainly original works from all the artists and sales were quite buoyant given the cold snap.

Pop Up Oct VII

Colour was the underlying feature of this Pop Up, with all four artists presenting works of bold, vibrant colours and shapes.

Sasha Louise Rae – Screen Print & Print Maker

I live and work in the shadow of the beautiful Malvern Hills, a place which gives me constant inspiration. I make bold and lively prints of birds, animals, insects and natural forms using simplified images to express character and movement.  Each of my designs begins as a series of sketches which experiment with different postures, arriving at a final image which I feel best captures a sense of the individual’s mannerisms and personality. In addition to my range of framed hand screen-printed artwork, I make cushions and other functional yet decorative items from beautifully soft natural linen, hand printed in environmentally friendly inks with my spirited and colourful designs.

Rich Evans – Flame Worker

A self-taught Flameworker, specialising in borosilicate implosion pendants, its low coefficient thermal expansion properties creating a huge array of opportunity for colour, shape and form. Through continual discovery and experimentation in coloured glass applications, silver fuming and flame control, each unique piece is colourful, intricate and beautiful. He confesses to be, addicted to the endless pursuit of the perfect pendant.

Mandy Clifford  – Aboriginal & Abstract Artist

Mandy’s fascination with Aboriginal Art originated from her trips to Tazmania, which is now the principle influence of her work. All her work is unique and individual, with great use of bright and vibrant colour, to inspire and brighten any room. She undertakes private commissions in colours to suit you, and doesn’t produce prints or reproduction, so each piece is a true original.

Cherrie Mansfield

Worcestershire artist Cherrie Mansfield uses acrylics and mixed media to create bold, vibrant paintings in an abstract style.   An eye-catching combination of colours is often the starting point for her richly textured artwork, which contains references to geology, science and the natural environment as well as less obvious sources such as a display of plastic spades at the seaside or the pattern on a friend’s dress.  Cherrie’s artwork is regularly exhibited at venues in the West Midlands and has been shown in two London galleries.  Her work has been selected for several national shows, including the 2017 Society of Women Artists Annual Exhibition.  Cherrie is an ArtGemini Prize finalist and a co-organiser of the popular annual Worcestershire Open Studios.

Susan uses various combinations of acrylic paint, inks, gouache, charcoal, etc., often incorporating collage, to create striking semi-abstract landscape, still life and floral works. Framed originals will be on display together with a selection of mounted giclée prints and greeting cards.

Sam produces work of a variety of subject matter but is best known for her eye-catching, beguiling animal paintings; a collection of eccentric animal portraits oozing with life and character, skillfully painted against a backdrop of vivid colour, and injected with the artist’s quirky sense of fun and humour.

Artworks flying out at Croome Court

Vivid Artwork’s are flying off the wall at Croome Court

The Pop Art Inspired vivid works by Jilly Oxlade-Arnott are a huge success at The National Trust’s Croome Court this year.

Auction bids are placed on new works as soon as they go up, with eager buyers having to wait until the end of the month to see if they have been successful

A buyer from New Zealand purchased three original canvasses of London in one go!

Every Worcester Cathedral image has been sold within a week of display, although not to everyone taste this just proves that the Vivid Range is gaining momentum and attracting a considerable fan base.
