Jilly Oxlade-Arnott selected for a Worcester Stands Tall Giraffe Sculpture
Jilly and other local and national artists have now been down selected to paint Worcester Stands Tall Giraffe sculptures this summer. The biggest public art event ever seen in Worcester.
Only 30 designs have been selected out of many fantastic entries. Jilly and the other artists are not allowed to reveal the name of their giraffe or provide any indication of their designs until they are displayed on the streets in July.

Get set for Worcester Stands Tall a mass-participation public art event that will take Worcester by storm for 10 weeks in the summer of 2018.
From July 9th to September 16th Worcester’s streets, parks and open spaces will be brought to life by giraffes. Individually designed, beautifully created, majestic giraffes as you’ve never seen them before!
Why a giraffe?
Giraffes are majestic, but elegant, gentle but giant. They are sociable creatures but do not form herds, instead they meet in changing groups each day, rather as we do in our own communities. Giraffes are the tallest mammals on earth and the collective noun for a group of giraffes is a tower! The Worcester Stands Tall trail will inspire creativity and generate plenty of fun for all as you follow them on their journey around the city.
Funded by companies and individuals from around the county, the sculptures will be brought to life by regional and national artists to create the visually stunning trail of art. At the end of the project the sculptures will be auctioned to raise vital funds for the free on-going care and support offered by St Richard’s Hospice for people affected by life-limiting illnesses.
Tricia Cavell, Fundraising Director for St Richard’s, said: “We’re really excited at the thought of majestic giraffes set against Worcester’s iconic backdrop, standing tall alongside us to bring colour and vibrancy to the city.”
She added, “Worcester Stands Tall will be an amazing adventure and is hugely important to St Richard’s Hospice. Not only will it inspire civic pride and conversation and give people an opportunity to get active on a free and fun day out, but we also hope to raise a significant sum towards the compassionate care and support we give to thousands of people each year.”
